Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 April 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how aMaldives (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects information about you when you visit amaldives.com (the “Site”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in an open and transparent manner.
1. Who we are
aMaldives is an independent Maldives travel guide that publishes resort reviews, atoll guides, trip-planning content and local-island information. The Site is operated from Perth, Western Australia. For any privacy questions you can contact us at privacy@amaldives.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Information you give us voluntarily — when you subscribe to our newsletter, send a message via our contact form, or reply to an email, we collect your name, email address and the content of your message.
- Automatically collected information — like most websites, we collect standard log data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, pages viewed and the date/time of each visit. This data is collected through cookies and analytics tools.
- Cookies and tracking technologies — we use first-party cookies for essential site functions, and third-party cookies for analytics and affiliate tracking (see section 5).
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver and improve the content and functionality of the Site;
- Send you our email newsletter and resort-deal updates, only if you have subscribed;
- Respond to enquiries you send us;
- Understand how visitors use the Site so we can make it better (aggregated analytics);
- Track affiliate referrals so our partners can credit qualifying bookings to us;
- Detect, prevent and address fraud or abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR/UK)
Where GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: your consent (for newsletter emails and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (running and improving the Site, security, fraud prevention) and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Cookies and third-party services
We use the following third-party services, each of which may set cookies or collect technical information about your visit:
- Google Analytics / Vercel Analytics — to understand aggregate site usage.
- Google AdSense — to serve advertisements. Google may use cookies to personalise ads. You can opt out at adssettings.google.com.
- Travelpayouts (aggregator for Hotellook, Aviasales, Kiwi.com, Klook, Tiqets, GetTransfer, Airalo, VisitorsCoverage and AirHelp) — when you click an outbound booking link, these partners may set cookies so that any qualifying booking is attributed to us. See our affiliate disclosure below.
- Newsletter provider — used only to deliver email newsletters to subscribers.
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Disabling cookies may affect some features of the Site.
6. Affiliate links disclosure
Some links on the Site are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a qualifying booking or purchase, we may receive a commission from the partner at no additional cost to you. This helps us keep aMaldives free to use. We only recommend resorts, activities and services we genuinely believe are valuable — affiliate partnerships never influence our editorial reviews or rankings.
7. Data retention
We keep newsletter subscriber details until you unsubscribe. Contact-form enquiries are retained for up to 24 months. Aggregated analytics data is retained in line with the respective provider's default retention period.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port the personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@amaldives.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Children
aMaldives is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site.
